Pharmaceutical Sales Salary InformationWhat salary would you receive as a pharmaceutical sales rep? Your pharmaceutical sales compensation would actually be a combination of a base salary and a bonus or commission. The base salary for an entry level pharmaceutical sales rep would be in the range of $45K to $60K. Each company structures bonuses somewhat differently, but all use some type of bonus plan to compensation pharmaceutical sales reps. Some have an upper limit on bonuses whereas others have no cap or upper limit. Bonuses can vary greatly from company to company, ranging from $25K annually to as much as $100K for top performers at companies with an unlimited bonus structure. Typically, achieving 100% of your target will yield the lowest level bonus the company offers. Bonuses increase for those top performers who exceed their target. Bonuses may be driven off of new prescriptions in your territory, total prescriptions in your territory or a combination of the two. Your products may be given different weight in the bonus structure. Trips are often awarded to the top 5% of the sales force as a way of recognizing top performers. In addition to this, your company will likely hold sales contests throughout the year. In addition to base salary and bonuses, you will likely receive benefits such as a company car, a gas allowance, company-paid car insurance, and a company provided cellphone. The salary and total compensation a pharmaceutical sales rep receives is part of what makes pharmaceutical sales such a desirable occupation.
